Initially I thought about doing an alternate install so that I can switch between versions as needed so I downloaded 11.0.15 from oracle and extracted it into the current install location and ran the alternatives - install command however it fails with the message: the primary link for Java must be usr/bin/Java. I gotta assume a person could set one up if they so desired but it just doesn’t seem to happen. The reason for that is there are no dedicated servers for Trine 2. ![]() You may have noticed that I didn’t use the word “server” in that previous statement. The game offers very little to stop either from happening, although you can still be banned from someone’s session. The amount of fun to be had in these situations is incredibly high and depending on your point of view, you can see this as a wonderful opportunity to work together and get a 100% completion on the game or use this as your chance to grief other gamers back to the stone age. You can now play as one of the three characters while the other two can be played by people from across the enterwebs. That’s cooperation mode for those of you who are in the wrong place. Almost.Īnother one of Trine 2’s strong points is the CO-OP. It’s graphics like these that almost make you want to turn off your computer and go out into the world in search of the most divine and radiant brilliance nature has to offer. All the environments are so detailed and beautiful that every time a new level loads you’re immediately bombarded and blown away by a screen filled with eye pleasing splendor and majesty. None of the levels really lacked any sort of area that could be screenshot and used as a desktop wallpaper. They seem so much more lush and vibrant than Trine 1. So since it can make difference let’s take a look at Trine 2’s graphics. Then the HD texture pack update came out and suddenly I could easily spend hours playing it again and genuinely enjoy myself the entire time. ![]() I already loved Stranger’s Wrath but over time found it harder and harder to stay interested in. But last year Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath got an HD update and I suddenly found my foot lodged firmly in my own mouth. I used to be the type of person who would proudly say graphics can’t improve a game and in all likelyhood will only harm it more development time spent on graphics means less time spent on gameplay, stronger graphics means more stress on system hardware which also means slower gameplay, lower framerates and etc. Another victory for the wizard! Sure, it might be considered an exploit or game breaking but it’s also fun and since games are supposed to be fun, shouldn’t it be considered more game breaking if it wasn’t so exploitive? ![]() After a couple attempts, I gave up on the lever, spawned 4 boxes under the exit then climbed up and walked out. In one such situation, the objective was to pull a lever that extends a couple platforms then race up a path and jump cross a gap before the timer runs out and the platforms fall. ![]() They removed the floating platforms but in a fun trade off they also removed the MP system! Yes, that’s right! You can keep spawning all the boxes and planks it takes to beat each level the wrong way and never worry about running out of mana! It’s downright silly how often carefully balancing boxes and planks on each other beats each level. Which is why I’m thrilled to announce the wizard is every bit as overpowered as he was in Trine 1! Well okay maybe not quite as overpowered. If they want to start taking themselves too seriously then so will I! I pretty much stopped playing Terraria around that time just as my little way of protesting all the nerfing. Such as Terraria limiting how many bands of regeneration and starpower you could equip to 1 each and nerfing the rocket boots so that it only let’s you fly for a second or two instead of using mana which would let you fly a lot longer and was WAY more fun back then. In big name commercial games the sequel usually takes itself too seriously and ‘fixes the broken elements’, thereby removing all the things that made it fun to begin with. Trine is a series that is so good you tend to forget it’s still indie. |
